Overview

This 10 day Uganda-Rwanda Safari takes you to the Murchison Falls National Park for game drives and boat cruise and to the primate world at Kibale National Park for Chimp trekking.  The safari takes you to Queen Elizabeth National Park for game drive and boat launch and to Lake Bunyonyi for scenic views and boat rides. The 10 Day Uganda-Rwanda safari extends to Rwanda and takes you to see Gorillas in Volcanoes National Park, enjoy cultural exposure at the Iby’wachu village and crown with a visit to the memorial sites in Kigali.

Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive in Uganda – Entebbe Airport
You will be met at the airport by our safari guide who will transfer you to Kampala to the hotel of your booking. Time allowing you will be taken around to see the main features of the city before retiring to your hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Drive to Murchison Falls National Park via Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary
You will have an early breakfast and then set off for Murchison Falls National Park some 348km from Kampala. This journey will approximately take 6 hours with an enroute stopover at Nakitoma to visit the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, home to the white Rhinos.  You will have a lunch break in Masindi town and proceed to the park to visit the magnificent top of the falls. You will have dinner and overnight at the lodge of your booking.

Day 3: Game drive in Murchison & boat cruise on River Nile
You will have an early breakfast after which you will be taken to catch the ferry at 07:00am to the northern side of River Nile where you will have a game drive. You will be able to spot a range of game including; Giraffes, Jackson Hartebeest, Lions, Buffalo, elephant, Uganda Kobs, among other species. You will return to the lodge for relaxation and lunch after which you will go for a boat cruise at 03:00pm. You will see a variety of water animals to include crocodiles, Hippos, water birds and other dwellers including the rare shoebill stork. Many land animals will also be seen drinking on the river side. You will return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Drive to Kibale National Park
After breakfast, you will embark on a 9 hour drive to Kibale National Park (441km) through the lush country side and magical scenery of the western rift valley and the Rwenzori Mountains before arriving in Fort Portal and later Kibale Forest National Park in the evening for dinner and overnight at your lodge.

Day 5: Chimp tracking and transfer to Queen Elizabeth National park
After breakfast you will be taken to the Kanyanchu tourism center at 08:00 am for a briefing on the Chimpanzee tracking rules and procedures. You will after the briefing set off to track the chimpanzees and on the way see various species of monkeys before finally catching up with the chimpanzees. The activity takes 2 – 5 hours and one hour is available for you to interact with the Chimps and take photos. In the afternoon you will drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park (110km for 3 hours) arriving in the evening for dinner and overnight.

Day 6: Game drive and boat cruise on Kazinga channel

You will set off early (about 6.30am) for a morning game drive, an awesome experience to spot the animals in their natural habitats.  Expect to see the famous Big Five; Elephant, Buffalos, Lions, Bush bucks, Kobs, Giant forest hog, Hyenas leopards, antelopes, and Waterbucks as well as birds. You will return for breakfast and relax till lunch. In the afternoon you will take a launch cruise along the amazing Kazinga channel to see at close range the water animals to include Hippos, Buffalos, and Crocodiles. There is also a variety of bird species on the water banks especially the famous Shoebill, pelican and Jacana. Dinner and overnight will be at your lodge.

Day 7: Travel to Lake Bunyonyi
You will have breakfast and then drive to Lake Bunyonyi. The lake lies close to the border with Rwanda, and is said to be one of the most beautiful places in western Uganda. It is the second deepest lake in Africa and also one of the few places in the country where it is considered safe to swim as it is bilharzias free. The journey takes 6-7 hours and you will have your lunch enroute. Dinner and overnight will be at one of the many lodges near the lake.

Day 8: Boat ride on Lake Bunyonyi & transfer to Volcanoes National Park
Lake Bunyonyi has 26 islands which can be explored on boat. These islands are surrounded by the magical Kigezi highlands whose terrain and the level of their temperature has justified them as the Switzerland of Africa. The 5 – 6 hour boat ride offers you impressive views of the Lake flora and various bird species on the shores. Along the shores are the local Bakiga and Batwa communities that will be amazing to interact with and learn about their history, culture and traditions. You will thereafter travel to Volcanoes National Park. Dinner and overnight will be at the lodge of your booking.

Day 9: Gorilla tracking
You will have an early breakfast and be driven to Park headquarters at Kinigi to join other tourists for a briefing on Gorilla tracking at 08:00am. You will, after the briefing, be divided into groups of 8 persons and allocated guides to lead you into the forest in search for the respective Mountain Gorilla families.  The trekking may last for 2 –8 hours and upon encountering the gorillas you will be allowed to stay with them for a maximum of one hour. You will return to the hotel for lunch and in afternoon be taken to either visit the Iby’wachu cultural village to learn about the Kinyarwanda culture or take a nature walk to the twin lakes. You will spend the night at your previous lodge.

Day 10: Drive to Kigali
You will have an early breakfast after and embark on the 116 km journey of 3 hours to the city of Kigali for a city tour. You will visit the Kigali Genocide memorial site, the Nyamata church, and the Presidential Palace Museum before either retiring to your hotel for dinner and overnight or transferring to the Airport for your departure flight.
