This 7-day Uganda birding safari starts at the Botanical Gardens in Entebbe and takes you to Mabamba Swamp around Lake Victoria for the shoebill and to Lake Mburo which attracts species from Northern Tanzania. The safari concludes with birding in Queen Elizabeth National Park with the biggest birding checklist ever recorded in any game reserve.

Uganda Birding Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Uganda

Upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport, you will be met by our safari guide who will transfer you to Kampala to a hotel booked for you. In case you have had an early flight to Uganda, you will bird around the Entebbe area. Dinner and overnight will be at the hotel of your reservation.

Day 2: Birding in Entebbe
You will after breakfast go for a whole day birding around the Botanical Gardens in Entebbe for a variety of Sunbirds, Weavers, kingfishers, and other water birds. Time allowing you will extend to bird Lutembe Beach for Black Herons and a variety of Terns, Gulls, and others (this depends on season). You will return to your hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Birding in Mabamba swamp and travel to Lake Mburo Park
You will transfer to Mabamba swamp after breakfast for the Shoebill, Purple Gallinule, African and Lesser Jacanas plus other water birds after which we set off westwards to Lake Mburo with lunch and birding en-route. Dinner and overnight will be at Mantana Tented Camp or the Bandas.

Day 4: Birding and game drive in Lake Mburo National park
You will after your breakfast go birding for the Brown-chested Plover (this is there between June and December), Red-faced Barbet, and later have a game drive to see the Zebra, Eland, Topis, Impalas, and some other game. After lunch, you will go for an afternoon boat ride in search of the African Finfoot. You will have dinner and overnight at Mantana Tented Camp or the Bandas.

Day 5: Boat launch and birding in Queen Elizabeth National Park
You will drive to Queen Elizabeth NP, arriving in time for a unique launch cruise along the Kazinga channel where you will see Hippos, Crocodiles, and water birds like the African Spoonbill, Pin Tailed Whydah African skimmer (seasonal), and many others. Overnight and Dinner will be at Mweya Safari Lodge or Jacana Safari Camp.

Day 6: Continuation of birding in Queen Elizabeth National Park
Whole day birding in search for Savanna birds like the Temminck’s Courser, Martial Eagle, Rupell’s Griffon Vulture, and many others, afternoon bird the crater area. Overnight and dinner will be at Mweya Safari Lodge or Jacana Safari Camp.

Day 7: Travel to Kampala
After breakfast, you will drive back to Kampala and later transfer to Entebbe for your departure flight.
