On this Uganda Primates safari we shall take you on the unforgettable primates expedition in two different settings; Ngamba Islands for a close-up experience in a unique sanctuary built for the orphaned chimps closely resembling their natural environment and thereafter set off to Kibale Forest for yet an encounter of a lifetime with the wild but habituated chimps.

You will proceed to view unique games in the prized Queen Elizabeth National park and experience the thrills of a game-walking safari in Lake Mburo National park. And all through the journey, you will experience lots of unique geographical features and scenic allure.

Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Uganda and visit Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary
You will be met at the airport by our safari guide who will transfer you to the pier on Lake Victoria to catch a speed boat that will take you to the sanctuary for orphaned chimpanzees on the Ngamba island. You watch them feed and display their playful antics that are a delight to watch. You will return to Entebbe and then transfer to Kampala for dinner and overnight at the hotel of your booking.

Day 2: Travel to Kibale Forest National Park
You will depart Kampala after breakfast and head westwards to Fort Portal town. The drive will take about 4 -5 hours. You will have lunch in Fort Portal and continue to Kibale where you will go for either a community walk or visit the beautiful Crater lakes region for a spectacular view. Dinner and overnight will be at your reserved lodge.

Day 3: Chimp tracking and nature walk in Kibale Forest
After breakfast, you will report to the Kanyanchu Tourist Centre at 08.00 am for a briefing on the rules before tracking the chimpanzees. Kibale Forest National Park has the greatest variety and highest concentration of primates in East Africa. The most famous of its 13 species is the Chimpanzee known to be a delightful ape.

The trek takes 2-3 hours and it will provide you with the opportunity to also see a variety of other primates and animals as well as birds, and a variety of butterflies, and other insects.  You will return to the lodge for lunch and in the afternoon go for a nature walk in the Bigodi Wetland to see a variety of birds and monkey species. You will have dinner and overnight at your lodge. Later you will travel to Queen Elizabeth National Park following the mystical Rwenzori Mountain Range.

Day 4: Game drive and boat cruise in Queen Elizabeth National Park

After your morning breakfast, you will have an early morning Game drive where you will see the lion, leopard, giant forest hog, Cape buffalo, elephant, defassa waterbuck, Uganda Kob, topi, and bushbuck among others. You will return to your lodge for lunch and in the afternoon go for a 2-hour boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel.

It is a 42kms channel that joins Lake Edward and Lake George. This trip passes through possibly the highest concentration of hippos and offers an excellent platform for photography, bird watching, and game viewing. The prolific bird life is colorful, with well over 550 resident species. Dinner and overnight will be spent at your reserved lodge.

Day 5: Queen Elizabeth – Lake Mburo National Park

You will after breakfast go for a hike in the Kyambura Wildlife Reserve to find an amazing gorge, one hundred meters deep, covered with tropical rainforest. You will hike into the gorge of the Kyambura River in search of the wild chimpanzees. This place is also home to many birds and butterfly species as well. After this activity, you will return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 6: Game drive in the Mburo Park and boat cruise on the Lake

You will have an early breakfast and travel to Lake Mburo National Park centered on a series of swamp-fringed lakes rich in birdlife while its green acacia woodland harbors wildlife like the Zebra, warthog, Elands, Impala among others which can be seen even as you enter the park.

You will have a 2-hour game drive and go for lunch at the lodge reserved for you. In the afternoon you will go for a boat ride on L. Mburo and get quite close to the crocodiles and hippos. You will return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 7: Travel to Kampala

You will after breakfast go for a nature walk guided by a ranger before setting off on your return journey to Kampala. You will have a stopover at the Equator where you will have an opportunity to stand in two hemispheres at the same time and take some photos. You will also make another stopover at the Mpigi Royal Drum Makers center where you will be able to watch the ceremonial drums being crafted using traditional methods passed down through the generations. You will arrive in Kampala in the late afternoon and either be transferred to the airport for your departure flight or to the hotel of your booking for dinner and overnight.
