Mountain Gorillas In DR Congo

One of the biggest attractions during your visit to the Virunga National Park is without a doubt the mountain gorilla trekking. You will leave early in the morning, when it is still cool, from the Mikeno Lodge towards the mountain gorillas. We suggest you plan at least two visits to the mountain gorillas because during your first visit you will probably experience the entire visit through your camera. We asked all of our guests and they said that they were much more relaxed during their second visit and were able to enjoy the whole experience even more. What makes a second visit even more worthwhile, is the fact that you’ll meet a different family of mountain gorillas that behave completely differently.

Depending on the location of the different families, you’ll have to walk for about one hour. You can spend one hour with the gorilla family and the very professional rangers and guards of Virunga Park will provide you with a superb viewing spot from a safe distance. It’s necessary to wear mouth masks to protect the gorillas from human diseases during your visit. After the visit, you’ll hike back to the Bukima Tent Camp. You can spend the night at Bukima Camp if you decide to visit a second family the next morning.
